Scoutbook is the Advancement Management software that Pack 297 uses to maintain and communicate advancements to the Samoset Council and the Boy Scouts of America. Any time a Scout works on anything Scout related, that information is entered by a Den Leader or an Adult into the Scoutbook system.
Understanding Akela
Akela is the name given to the Cub Scout's leader. This is the Cub Scout's adult partner, and that person is responsible for acknowledging completion of each adventure requirement by signing and dating the appropriate spot in the Cub Scout's handbook. There is also a spot for the Cub Scout Den Leader to sign for each requirement. Pages in the back of the Cub Scout handbook can be used by the Cub Scout to track progress all in one place.
Please note that if you are not trained to be a Cub Scout Leader, you should not sign off as the Leader.
Adult (Not Leader) Use
Scoutbook allows for the Adults of Scouts to mark Adventures, or parts of Adventures, as being completed. If your Scout has completed parts or all of an Adventure, you can go into Scoutbook and mark what they have completed.
Please take some time to review this Scoutbook Tutorial for Parents
This Tutorial discusses:
Viewing Advancements and Marking Requiements Complete
Before Marking Anything as Complete, Please communicate with your Den Leader
Please do not check the Leader Approved/Recorded option - this will cause the Scouts advancement to get lost, and should be verified by the Den Leader before approval.
